Coooooorrectoooo JSG.

L-Bristol-Blenheim-3G-Front-Side.jpg

Puro bicharraco british.

Precio: unas 140.000 libras esterlinas

Why might someone be interested in Bristol?
If you´ve been paying attention to the car industry´s evolution you will be aware of a few trends.
Cars are more complex and in many ways less pleasurable to drive in any sense other than being
fault-free and very fast.

Modern cars are also constructed in ways that place more emphasis on certain aesthetic
principles which hamper durability and maintainability.
An example of this is the assembly of car interiors such that repairs and maintenance
become prohibitively expensive or unfeasible, particularly if the accountant´s rule
is adhered to (where the repair costs more than the car is worth then scrap the car).

The exposed screw heads inside a Bristol are there because Bristol intends their cars
to be fixable. Modern cars have short lives: they are developed in 36 months, are on sale
for 36 months to 60 months and then replaced by an entirely new design.

Car design is in permanent revolution rather than a state of gentle evolution.
No wonder Mercedes and Audis and Toyotas have so many failures. The engineers don´t have enough
time to iron out the faults before a whole new design has to be created.

Bristol cars are an intriguing phenonomenon because one of their two models is essentially
an evolution of a design dating from 1961. Since then Bristol have been able to iron out faults
and gradually improve the car on an incremental basis. Since the engineering principles
of Bristols are for performance, ease of use, long life and robustness this means the
cars are now and probably always have been astonishingly reliable.

Bristol´s origins are in the aerospace industry and this has left a legacy not of huge
complexity but of highly-engineered durability. The point of aerospace engineering is not that
it´s complex (think Ferrari or Lamborghini or Porsche or any BMW) but that it never fails.

In tandem with this interest in engineering integrity is the way in which a Brisotl is
set up with crisp steering and agile handling based upon the idea of all the main masses
of the car being inside the long wheelbase. Famously, the battery and spare wheel nestle
in compartments between the front wheel and the leading edge of the doors.

The engine offers plenty of torque and a high top speed but can also do it returning
25-30 miles per gallon. The huge fuel tank means a good range. You won´t go 240 miles
in an Aston Martin. Being based on a long-lived design, the Bristol offers slim pillars
with excellent visibility and a comfortable seating position. The car is not that wide
meaning it does not feel bulky to drive. I´ve sat in a Bristol and can report that I´d
have been immediately at home driving the machine under any circumstances.
I recently experienced the driving position of a Citroen C5 and I felt it was so dark
and enclosing that I wouldn´t drive the car away even if it was given to me for free.

Bristols do not conform to many people´s ideas of modern motoring.
But this doesn´t mean Bristol cars are in error.
Rather, modern motoring has been pushed in directions that make high performance cars
much less of a satisfying and intellectual experience than they could really be.
I think a way to sum up Bristol is that the cars are passionately rational.

Del folleto del fabricante:

  • Blenheim 3 -- dignified express travel for four six-foot persons and their luggage.
  • Blenheim 3G -- As above, fuelled on either petrol or LPG with seamless switching between them for economy.
  • Blenheim 3S -- Like the 3 but with sporting performance, enhanced handling, roadholding and brakes. Torque to weight ratio is superior even to rivals with turbocharged engines, according to the normally taciturn car company, describing it as "the ultimate Q car."

Changes to all 3 and 3G models in 2005 are as follows:

  • 225/60 x16 tyres (previously 215/70 x15).
  • Five-spoke 16-inch alloy wheels increase airflow across the brakes by 26 per cent.
  • Two inches wider rear track
  • Revised engine computer for enhanced smoothness and fuel economy.
  • Larger four piston brake callipers and improved brake pads for longer life and better fade resistance.
  • Uprated front springs for crisper handling.
  • Revised dampers providing greater body control in fast driving with reduced small bump harshness around town.
  • Rotary ventilation controls for more precise adjustment.
  • Wood veneer door cappings and matching wood trim over air-conditioning console for more club-like interior feel.

The Bristol philosophy

Bristol also said that  it was keen to emphasise that the philosophy behind its cars remains unchanged. It remains committed to a strict engineering based design philosophy, and its latest saloons "remain refreshingly free of fashionable but worthless gadgets. For example we do not fit a separate starter button. – we gave that up 46 years ago."

Bristol added that its cars do not contain:

  • Harsh run-flat 40-ratio tyres.
  • Unfathomable computerised command and control system.
  • Massaging seats with computer controlled side bolsters.
  • Disobedient computerised transmission.

It said it remains committed to the old-fashioned values of a starter key, comfortable and durable 60 series tyres that last, are cheap to replace and grip well in all weather conditions.

The cars include a full-sized spare wheel, while the traditional switches, labelled in English or the language of your choice can be repaired "cheaply and simply by any competent repair man."

Seats too are "of traditional design, beautifully shaped, hand trimmed and amongst the most comfortable ever fitted to a motorcar. Our transmission has reliable mechanical controls. If you select first gear at 40 mph that is what you will get until you, not a computer decide otherwise."

Bristol reckoned that demand for the Blenheim range has increased year by year because "enthusiasts relish the fact that the cars have genuine character, integrity and charm."
