So, where do i start?
The incident started about 1 min before the start of this video. The white car outbraked himself and tapped the red car. To be fair, it was only his 3rd race.
The two of them had a couple of ‘moments’ up until the white car got a puncture. This culminated in him spinning just after the esses.
Due to that, the red car lifted and pulled left. This gave me a great run down the outside.
As im passing the red car, i can clearly see the drivers head turn and look at me in the mirror, so i keep accelerating hard safe in the knowledge that he knows im there.
Considering its a straight, with a slight kink to the left (still taken flat) that runs down to a right hand corner (Tower), i should have been safe on the right side of the track.
The next thing i know he’s turned into me, putting me on the damp grass (there was a light shower just the lap before).
I tried to brake, needless to say, it didnt work.
I yell an expletive.
I look at whats approaching…. instantly realise that the car is done for, and in my head curl up into a ball… in reality i barely let go of the steering wheel.Im eternally grateful that i had a HANS device on! Plus the rollcage, which did its job superbly.
I was shaken up, but physically fine. A little wobbly when being taken to the ambulance, but ok.
I was more worried about getting back to the pits. My gf was watching… i wanted to let her know i was fine.
She tells me she was watching, turned away for a second and then heard a bang. She could clearly see it was my car half way up the tyre barrier.
Everyone in the paddock was supportive and helpful.
I wont go into detail about what happened post race with the driver in the stewards office, but he refused to accept any blame.
Any questions, feel free to ask
