La cultura JDM es una de las mejores maneras de expresar las preparaciones de coches en Japón. Las premisas de estas preparaciones pasan por una base japonesa. Y como su nombre indica (Japan Domestic Market) los componentes que utilizan provienen de Japón, no confundirlo con el Import, que monta piezas de EEUU, UK, Japón e incluso Australia. También destaca la estética exterior de los coches JDM, muy escueto a la vez que bonitos, sin estridencias. La serie B DOHC de Honda es el motor mas caracteristico y conocido de esta marca. En algunos de sus modelos, el corte de inyeccion supera incluso las 8.000rpm. Este motor fue fabricado en 4 cilindradas, algunos con sistema VTEC y otros sin él. 1.6, 1.7, 1.8, 2.0 Muchas de las versiones de este motor fueron utilizadas exclusivamente por Acura, sobretodo en los Integras. VTEC: Siglas de Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control System. Se trata del sistema de distribución variable de Honda, caracterizado por la utilización de una tercera leva adicional que entra en juego a partir de un cierto régimen al hacerse solidario el balancín que debe moverla con los que accionan las otras dos levas, gracias a la presión del aceite. Esta leva pasa a controlar las válvulas, variando tiempo de apertura y alzado. Honda utiliza dos tipos de distribución VTEC: en admisión y escape para los motores de doble árbol, y sólo en admisión para los motores monoárbol, aunque en este segundo caso existe una variante denominada VTEC-E específicamente adaptada para un motor que funciona con mezcla pobre. Una de sus mayores ventajas residia en la posibilidad de intercambiar partes del motor y perifericos entre las diferentes variantes.
